Gail Rand, CPA

Founder & CEO

Gail is the Founder and CEO of grand consulting, where she brings 30+ years of experience in finance to work on financial plans, business modeling, transaction support, and strategic advisory.

From 2015 to 2019, Gail was Co-Founder, CFO, and Patient Advocate for the first cultivation licensee in Maryland. Alongside developing the financial strategy and setting up the back office, she identified and managed the metrics that tied to it, managed cash, and monitored the control systems to report accurate financial results.

Before cannabis, her work included Lean process improvement in the finance function for a large public company, as well as auditing and systems implementations at PwC.

Since 2013, Gail has been a medical cannabis parent advocate on behalf of her and Colin’s son, who has epilepsy and autism. She played an integral role in helping to pass the 2014 legislation establishing Maryland’s medical cannabis program.

Gail is a graduate of the University of Virginia, with distinction, and a licensed CPA in the State of Maryland.

Colin Rand, CPA

Managing Partner

Colin is Managing Partner of grand consulting, bringing 35+ years of experience in accounting, auditing, and business consulting to support clients’ financial systems, reporting, and business growth. Colin focuses on data analysis, helping clients turn financial and operational data into clear, actionable insights for planning and decision-making.

Most recently, Colin served as an Associate Chief Accountant with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where his work centered on analyzing and investigating the financial reporting of public companies. Colin developed a data tool that the SEC used to identify cases, which was covered on the front page of the WSJ. Prior to the SEC, he held Controller positions with several public and private companies, overseeing financial systems and internal controls and analyzing the data behind accurate, timely reporting. Colin has worked on several capital raises, including debt, initial public offerings, and venture-backed offerings. Early in Colin’s career he worked at PwC in auditing.

Beyond his professional work, Colin has been an active participant in his son’s medical cannabis journey, developing a simple cold extraction process for THCa, giving him a hands-on understanding of the product side of the industry alongside his financial expertise.

Colin is a graduate of Virginia Tech and a licensed CPA in the State of Maryland.
